tag nodes - crashing maya when keyed

I was wondering if anyone has see these "tags" - for example "pose_L_Shoulder_tag." I haven't seen them before, perhaps it's a 2018 bug? When I delete them everything works fine. While before deletion I can't key/move the character without the skeleton moving without the character, then maya crashing.

in maya 2018 (maybe also 2017) I'm automatically adding tags to controls. I should revisit the code and remove tags from the pose arrows because they are not controls
